Rules

As far as multiplayer online battle arena games (MOBA) go, DOTA (Defense of the Ancients) is the genre's premium pioneer. Following its release in 2003, it quickly rose to become a global phenomenon and was one of the first MOBA titles for which sponsored tournaments got held. In 2013, the legendary Washington-based developer Valve released its long-awaited sequel, DOTA 2, which took the gaming world by storm and still maintains its popularity.

For the uninformed, the original DOTA was a mod for Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, which came out in 2002, and featured an expansion pack titled - The Frozen Throne. The map Aeon of Strife from the super-popular real-time military strategy StarCraft, released in 1998, heavily influenced DOTA's gameplay. Much of its success stemmed from its association with Warcraft III, which, in the mid-2000s, revolutionized multiplayer gaming by having an unprecedented player pool.

Today, DOTA 2 is an eSports mainstay, holding the record for the most international tournaments held per year, as well as the most watch Twitch tournament ever. Such events also have some of the biggest prizes in the eSports industry and gave rise to DOTA 2 betting as an attractive option for gaming enthusiasts who like to dabble in online gambling.

The Rules of DOTA 2

Matches in this real-time strategy get played between two teams consisting of five players each. Both sides define a base on different parts of the same map, and every player manages a character referred to as a hero. All ten of these heroes have unique abilities and distinct styles of play. They have three attributes, intelligence, strength, and agility, and they divide into two roles support and core. The latter starts the round as vulnerable but may grow to become super-powerful to carry its team to victory.

The gameplay goal here is for players to collect items and experience points. These will boost their character's attributes and help them to defeat the opposing team's heroes in player vs. player combat. Once a team grows strong enough, they can attack their competitor's base, trying to take down a large structure known as the Ancient. The first team to accomplish this wins the round.

Characters known as neutral creeps also roam the map, and they can become hostile to both teams. However, they usually do not attack unless provoked and like to stick to their camps.

The Rules of the DOTA 2 Drinking Game

You play this game while watching professionals partake in DOTA 2 matches online. It works best with groups of three to seven players but is also playable with up to ten people per session. Everyone should have their drinks readily available. Meaning, everyone should have a full cup with several doses, and there must be one hard-liquor in play designated for shots.

In the draft phase, each player selects their hero, and the drinks they take or force others to guzzle get based on that hero's performance. A drink constitutes a pre-defined intake of alcohol or dose, usually the amount needed to fill a shot glass. A sip or gulp is half of that, and water-falling is chugging the whole cup in one instance.

Thus, players take one drink when they die, when their team loses a barrack/tower, or when they kill a Roshan. You can also take an extra gulp when your hero gets the last hit that destroys a structure or if the Aegis gets stolen by the opposite team.

Now, each hero featured in DOTA 2 should have their drinking action. For example, when an Anti-Mage gets a multi-kill, the person with the least amount of alcohol in their cup must take three drinks. You should determine this list with your friends. However, if you are lazy, you can search online to locate a pre-defined one that you can use.

As always, please remember to drink responsibly! This alcohol drinking game is not meant to lead to you becoming sick due to over-consumption of alcohol. Need a sober ride?
